To no one’s surprise, IIMs Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta have been rated as India’s best MBA colleges. This year, IIM Bangalore has gained a slight edge over IIM Calcutta for the second position. These are the three oldest and most desirable business schools in India, producing actors who have led multi-billion dollar companies. These three institutes are also among the hundred best business schools in the world.

Note – MICA, IMT Ghaziabad, XIMB, KJSIMSR, TAPMI, XUB, IFMR, SDA Bocconi Asia Center, Great Lakes Chennai, FORE, Goa Institute of Management and WE School were listed but refused to participate in this ranking.
Top B Schools In India
Among the top five, government MBA colleges rule. FMS Delhi continues to be the business school of choice for candidates across the country. A big contributor to this is the relatively high return on investment that FMS provides its graduates, charging just ₹2.00 lakh for a two-year program; an amount that some people can afford with just their summer internship pay. This year, XLRI Jamshedpur was edged out of the top five by IIM Lucknow, albeit only by a whisker.
Among the top IIMs, IIM ABCLKI has been ranked in that order. IIM Indore may not be favored over IIM L and K because of the large batch size at the institute. Despite this, the institute managed to achieve 100% placements for its batch year after year, including for the Class of 2021. XLRI Jamshedpur was preferred over IIM Kozhikode and Indore. ISB has significantly improved its ranking from last year.
XLRI Jamshedpur, SPJIMR Mumbai, and Indian School of Business are the top three privately owned management institutes in India.
For the first time in three years, IIFT Delhi has been left out of the top ten, albeit only by a nanoscopic margin. MDI Gurgaon, JBIMS, NITIE and SJMSoM also feature among India’s fifteen best MBA colleges in 2021. Notably, IITs have ranked ahead of second and third generation IIMs in terms of desirability. IIT Bombay’s SJMSoM has performed very well, being ahead of IIM Shillong.
Best Mba Colleges In Mumbai
NITIE Mumbai, despite admitting only engineers and offering specialized management programs, has featured among the top fifteen b-schools in India. TISS, another business school that offers specialized programs, has improved its ranking compared to last year. TISS, along with FMS and JBIMS, has one of the highest return on investment ratios among top business schools in India.
SIBM Pune was ranked ahead of second and third generation IIMs. This ranking is ahead of Mumbai’s SBM-NMIMS for the fourth consecutive year, this ranking should settle the frequent comparison between SIBM and NMIMS. IIT Kharagpur’s VGSoM has been the biggest gainer since last year, improving its ranking by ten positions.

IIM Trichy has emerged as the top second generation IIM in the country, ranking ahead of business schools like SBM-NMIMS and SCMHRD. On the other hand, IIM Rohtak continues to be the least favored among the second generation IIMs.
Over the years, NMIMS has started disappearing in the minds of MBA aspirants despite being in Mumbai and having a higher average salary than the newer IIMs. Perhaps the institute’s large cohort size, large program fees, and lack of a residential MBA program could be contributing to the institute’s current position in this ranking. This year, IIFT Kolkata has ranked ahead of SBM-NMIMS Mumbai.
