While the cost of a retirement home varies from state to state, there are some retirement homes in the US that are more luxurious than the usual independent living facility.
These outliers offer modern amenities to retired residents, often including linen service, housekeeping, valet parking and 18-hole golf courses. These amenities also come with a hefty price tag – some costing nearly $1 million.
Vivante in Costa Mesa, California has several luxurious on-site amenities, including an indoor therapy pool and four restaurants.
Vivante specializes in memory care and offers guests independent and assisted living options. The community also focuses on luxury amenities. For example, the Ivory Lounge has a saltwater aquarium and a baby grand piano. There is also a cinema that seats 40 people and a salon that can do hair and nails. Vivante’s four restaurants offer residents a buffet, casual bistro, and private dining room.

While the cost of Vivante can exceed $10,000 per month, the retirement community offers studio and one-bedroom apartments. The two-bedroom apartments at 1,783 square feet are the largest and come with a patio.
Encanterra in San Tan Valley, Arizona is advertised as a resort community with restaurants, a golf course and a spa.
While Encanterra is an all-ages community, it does have smaller neighborhoods intended for retirees age 55 and older. Located just outside of Phoenix, Encanterra has two resort pools, a private spa, an event center and several restaurants. The community also has an 18-hole golf course overlooking the San Tan Mountains.
The cheapest home, at $228,000, is 1,318 square feet, while the most expensive home, at $392,000, is 2,726 square feet. Each home has an open floor plan and fully equipped kitchens.
Senior Living Community
Florida’s Sarasota Bay Club believes that living is an “art,” and the community’s gardens, pools, and amenities help residents live artfully.
Located in Sarasota, Florida, Sarasota Bay Club boasts a list of amenities including a swimming pool, spa, auditorium, massage therapy studio, billiards room, woodworking shop, salon, and library. The community’s largest dining room also serves gourmet meals.
While some apartments in the Sarasota Bay club can cost upwards of a million dollars, there are 983-square-foot one-bedroom apartments that go for less. The larger apartments have three bedrooms and 2,326 square feet of space.
Located on Chicago’s Gold Coast, The Clare is a blend of community amenities with the benefits of city living. High-rise residents have access to the on-site health and wellness center, fitness center, and aquatic center. There are also three on-site restaurants including The Abbey, The Bistro and The Grafton.

When not on the lake, most residents move around the property on golf carts.
Most homes in Del Webb are ranch-style with one to four bedrooms. The cheapest house, at $247,990, has 1,109 square feet, while the most expensive house, at $371,990, has 2,536 square feet.
The Villages operates as an independent small town as each plaza and plaza is filled with small boutiques and restaurants. Everything this community has to offer is accessible by golf cart which is the preferred mode of transportation.

The community also aims to keep residents active by offering recreation centers, enrichment programs, dog parks, polo grounds, dance classes, and a softball complex.
The Villages offer one to four bedroom homes starting at $119,000. The most expensive homes are called the Premier and can cost between $600,000 and $1.5 million.
Arizona’s Rio Verde Country Club is a golf community that strives to get its residents outdoors.
The Rio Verde Country Club caters to active retirees who enjoy the outdoors, with extensive hiking trails, two golf courses and a swimming pool. The community also has a bocce ball court, pickleball court and tennis courts. Horseback riding is also popular among residents of the Rio Verde Country Club.
Costa Rica Retirement Homes
The community offers a range of homes including townhouses and villas. You can also rent out properties in the community for shorter stays.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains, Covenant Living at the Samarkand offers retired residents breathtaking views and beachfront activities. Some community amenities include a wood store, fitness center, and outdoor pool. Samarkand also has a thrift shop, cafe and spa. Residents can also choose between fine dining and casual eateries.
The million dollar homes can come with one bedroom or two bedrooms. A two-bedroom house reaches 1,185 square meters at the Samarkand.
While the Residences at Turner Hill has no age restriction, the community’s marketing director said it is aimed at the wealthier retiree community. The Residences is divided into four neighborhoods: The Gardens, The Village, The Hill and The Fairways. But the main attraction of the community is the 18-hole golf course.
Durrants, Retirement Village In West Sussex
A home in this community can cost anywhere from $899,000 to $1.6 million. The most expensive house has three bedrooms and 4,542 square feet.
The Forum on Park Lane offers both assisted living and independent living for seniors. But the community also has a long list of amenities, including a beauty salon, barber shop, private dining room, in-house doctor visits, housekeeping, linen service, and even happy hour.
The Forum also partners with celebrity chef Brad Miller to create the community’s menu, which includes fried shrimp, rack of lamb, pork tenderloin, and grilled tilapia.
Renting an apartment at The Forum at Park Lane costs $2,700 per month or $4,400 per month, depending on need.
Luxury Senior Living & Supportive Lifestyle Options In Jacksonville
For independent living, residents pay $2,700 per month, while those requiring assisted living pay $4,400 per month. The smallest bedroom in The Forum is 651 square feet, and the largest two-bedroom apartment is $1,463 square feet.
The Preserve at SaddleBrooke has a luxury country club and an 18-hole golf course with swimming pool, tennis court, softball court and fitness center. On site there is also a performing arts theater and a Creative Arts Center. The Preserve Restaurant is also popular with residents for its American cuisine and seating that overlooks the Santa Catalinas.
The Preserve’s ranch-style homes have two or three bedrooms. The cheapest house, which sells for $500,900, has two bedrooms and 2,395 square feet.
Located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Atria West 86 features a rooftop terrace overlooking the Hudson River, a penthouse fitness center, a library and a hair salon. Other amenities include a 24-hour concierge, chef-prepared meals, car service, event programs and housekeeping.
