If you are backpacking across India, the best way to get to Mumbai is by plane or train.

If you are already in India, you can use the very well-developed train network to get around. Or you can opt for a bus that is usually longer.

If you’re traveling long distances across the city, the subway should be by far the cheapest and fastest way to get around Mumbai.

Normally, when we visit a city and have a lot of places to see, our preferred choice of transportation is a moped.
Honestly the smell can be really awful in most parts of the city so I wouldn’t recommend this for that one reason.
Yes, the traffic is quite mental, so only choose this option if you are completely comfortable with a moped and have a lot of practice.

This is arguably the best choice as your driver has an expert knowledge of the entire city and can then take you from stop to stop without wasting any time in between.
Pretty important as there is a long list of amazing places to visit in one day in Mumbai and you are really short on time.
I can’t advise you on an exact price. Instead, the owner of your hotel/hostel should be able to recommend a fair price.
Renting a tuktuk (or rickshaw as they call them) is cheaper. But again, you will have to put up with the smell and heat to a greater degree.

Bandra Fort is one of India’s oldest historical sites, built in the 1600s by the Portuguese when they controlled the region.
The fortress itself is not particularly large, having suffered years of decay before some repair in the early 2000s.
