Top Ten Things To Do In Singapore – After being in Singapore for 6 months, we got to know the city (and the country) well. It is one of my favorite places in Asia. All this is mainly due to the innovative things that are done in Singapore. It is one of those cities that can attract everyone.
Now, you might think that Singapore is a small country, but don’t let its size put you off! There are many wonderful things to do in Singapore. With the mind-set; Beautiful temples, historical sites and a melting pot of Indonesian Bangladeshi, Indian and North Asian cuisine. It is a foodies dream city.

Best of all, you can even find some beautiful beaches and warm waters that you never thought existed in Singapore. Or, at least I didn’t before I moved there.
Top 10 Best Things To Do In Singapore
With that in mind, I wanted to share some of my favorite things to do in Singapore on your trip. Some of them are small points, some are big attractions. However, there are a few good prospects that will catch your eye.
One place I visited many times while in Singapore was the Botanic Gardens. Founded in 1859, it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2015.
Now, while visiting, make sure you don’t miss the orchid garden. It has an amazing variety of brands from all over the world that you don’t want to miss.
Oh, and keep an eye out for friendly resident terrapins. However, don’t get your fingers too close – they can feel it!
Of The Best Things To Do In Singapore
Exploring the gardens takes about 2-3 hours, making it the perfect afternoon activity. Personally, I prefer early morning or late afternoon when the sun’s rays are less intense. The heat and humidity in Singapore can be intense.
Just a few minutes’ drive from Chinatown, the Sri Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in all of Singapore.
Now, this is still one of my favorite temples and things to do in Singapore. Walk around the grounds, learn about its history and explore the surrounding neighborhoods for lunch.
As I mentioned, China Town is very close and is one of the best places to grab some street food while walking.
Best Things To Do In Sentosa Island
Kusu Island is located 6 km or so from the ‘mainland’ and is one of the best things to do in Singapore on a lazy weekend.
Now, being home to the Da Bogong Temple and some beautiful marble tortoises (along with some real ones too), it’s a great place to take a break from city life while visiting Singapore.
Apparently, (in both Malay and Chinese folklore) Kusu Island was created by a torturer in Singapore who saw two distressed sailors and quickly turned into a small island to save them, or so I was told at the temple.
If you believe the legend, Kusu Ireland is a perfect way to spend 4 to 5 hours enjoying the tranquility, temples and nature this island has to offer.

When I visited I combined this with a visit to St John Island, which took a total of 6-8 hours. We have rolled the boat, so be sure to check the times (here) before planning your trip.
Most visitors to Singapore have no idea of the beautiful beaches just a few kilometers away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Remember to check in on the day boat from the city itself and pack your swimwear, food, SPF cream and drinks. There are no shops on this Island with Singapore’s humidity and sun, it can be intense.
My top recommendation is to go here in the late afternoon and enjoy a handshake after visiting the temples on the cool island of Kusu.
Fun & Affordable Things To Do In Singapore
After you head back to the city, pop into the Amazing Cafe (Telok Ayer Street), a cute little eatery with some of the best chili in town.
About a 15-minute walk from the river itself, this lodge and temple is one of the best things to do in Singapore if you’re looking for some hidden religious sites.
Afterwards, head over to Bitters & Love (Telok Ayer Street) for some pre-dinner cocktails. It’s a great place.
Food is a big part of traveling, for me at least, and I always like to try some of the local dishes that people love.

Now, one dish that Singapore is famous for is the spicy crab. It is one of the best things to do in Singapore if you want to be beautiful!
Consisting of whole crabs that can be shared by a small group, it’s a great dinner to share with friends.
Usually, the price of Chilli Crab varies from place to place. With prices usually fluctuating depending on weight and time of day.
If you are looking for a good treat, why not head to the “Jumbo” Chilli Crab Restaurant at Clarke Quay for an evening meal. It’s a lot more than the convenience stores or China Town costs for the food but it’s totally worth the treat.
Top 10 Unique Things To Do In Singapore
Chinatown is one of the busiest and most enjoyable suburbs. It is easily one of the best things to do in Singapore which is famous for its delicious street food.
Oh, and don’t forget the markets and street stalls. Here, you can try one of the “smelliest fruits in the world”, the Durian Fruit. Trust me when I say it will make your eyes pop!
For a little luxury, head to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel which has one of the longest infinity pools in the world.
Although they are more expensive than some other hotels in the city, the pool alone makes it one of the best things in Singapore.

If you decide not to stay at Marina Bay Sands, you can still see the pools (and the city view) by going into some of the hotel’s rooftop bars. It’s a great place for an evening drink overlooking the city!
Just be aware, alcoholic beverages can be more expensive than in most other Asian cities, so take that into account when budgeting.
If you are looking to try the famous Singapore Sling Cocktail, head to Raffles, Long Bar – where the cocktail is officially created. Now, the cocktail itself is a little pricey… I think it’s around $30USD, but it’s worth a visit and a delicious drink.
The bar itself is beautifully maintained and you still drop your peanut shells directly onto the man-made floor of the early twentieth century. It is one of the best things to do in Singapore and the city’s famous cocktail lounge.

The city is known for its love of nature, with the Gardens by the Bay being one of the best things to do in Singapore while staying in the downtown area.
Be sure to wander around the Supertree Grove, too. They are 50-meter tall trees (man-made) that imitate nature. Above each tree works as an irrigation system and even works as air conditioning systems in some rooms in the gardens.
Oh, and don’t forget to visit Cloud Mountain. It’s a temperature-controlled dome, in my opinion, one of the best things to do in Singapore if you love nature.

When you climb 40 meters up the mountain, you will see some of the best flowers and plants created for us to enjoy.
Use the outdoor trails to hike up and down the mountain, cooling off in tropical weather and waterfalls.
Head to Singapore’s harbor front area (about a 25-minute walk from Clark Quay) and see Singapore’s mascot, the Merlion.
Located on the north side of the harbor, it’s only a 10-minute drive from Marina Bay Sands if you’re already in the area. Oh, and don’t forget, in the evening you can even watch the famous light show opposite the harbor.
Amazing Things To Do In Singapore
Lighting starts at 8pm and 9.30pm Sunday-Thursday. That being said, if you are a night owl, there is a show at 11 pm on Friday and Saturday nights, too. It is truly one of the best things to do in Singapore after a long day of exploring.
If you are interested in a short walk, take a walk through the treetops of Singapore’s hills, the Southern Ridges. It is truly one of the best things to do in Singapore that will make you feel like you have left the city life far away.
At around 10 kilometers, it can be a very strenuous walk on hot and humid days. That being said, I went early in the morning and managed to really enjoy the skywalk without enjoying the mid-day heat.
For a tasty bite to eat after your trek, head over to Aromas of India (Race Course Road) one of the best Indian eateries in town. It’s not fancy but the food is delicious.
